A message from Janet Dean

I want to thank all the people in the Burton constituency for their support during the 13 years I have been their Member of Parliament.  It has been a great privilege to serve as Labour MP for Burton and Uttoxeter.

I have met with so many people who give up their own time to work for the community as well as those who contribute as police officers, business people, health service workers, teachers and in countless other ways. I have also met people working hard and doing their best for their families in very difficult circumstances. This gives me great hope for the future.

I have been an elected representative for 28 years and despite the current cynicism about politicians, I still believe that political action is the most effective way to get things changed. I believe that most people, especially the least well off of my constituents, are better off than they were 13 years ago, thanks to the minimum wage, tax credits and measures to help the youngest and the older members of the community.

Life will never be perfect, neither will politicians, but people acting together can make things better.

Janet kicked off the campaign to save the brewing museum last year by setting up an action group. She is delighted by the deal with Planning Solutions Ltd to transform the former Coors Visitor Centre into a National Brewing Centre.

“This is great news for Burton.  At last our great brewing heritage will get the recognition it deserves.” said Janet.
