I hope that my website will help you to understand the work I do as Labour Member of Parliament for the Burton Constituency.

   About Janet

Janet Dean was born in Crewe in 1949 and educated at Winsford Verdin Grammar School in Cheshire.

She married Alan Dean in 1968 and moved to Burton. They had two daughters, Carol and Sandra, and in 1975 went to live in Uttoxeter. Janet was widowed in December 1994.

Janet has a long record of public service in East Staffordshire.  She served as a County Councillor, representing Uttoxeter, for 16 years and as a Borough Councillor for 6 years. She was elected as MP for Burton in 1997.

At Westminster Janet's work centres on her membership of the Home Affairs Select Committee.

Public Service:

May 1997- Member of Parliament for the Burton Constituency.

Feb 1999 - Home Affairs Select Committee member.

1981-1997: Member of Staffordshire County Council.

1991-1997: Member of East Staffordshire Borough Council.

1996-1997: Mayor of East Staffordshire Borough Council.

1995-97: Member of Uttoxeter Town Council.

1985-1993: Vice-Chair of County Highways Committee.

1993-1996: Vice-Chair of County Social Services Committee.

1992-1997: Chair of County Equal Opportunities Sub-Committee.
