   Local election results

Janet Dean has expressed her disappointment at the County Council election results in Staffordshire.

Janet said,

“ It has clearly been a very bad result for Labour.  First of all I would like to thank all those voters who did go out and vote for Labour candidates on Thursday.  Their support and loyalty are very much appreciated.”

“ I am delighted that my friends and colleagues Peter Davies and Peter Beresford have retained their seats in Burton.  It is good news for the people they represent. I very much regret the loss of so many other good Labour councillors across the county. Staffordshire under Labour control and with a Labour Government has developed into one of the best performing authorities in England.  Our primary schools are in the top ten in the country.”

“ I am certain that local people are heartily sick of the rumours and speculation coming out of Westminster. They want to know that the Government is concentrating on beating the recession and protecting jobs and families. The Government has already given real help to homeowners, businesses and those at risk of unemployment.  I believe that the measures Gordon Brown has taken to stimulate the economy are starting to have a positive effect. The new cabinet will build on this work, to grow us out of the economic downturn."

“ A General Election focusing on the expenses fiasco would not be in the public interest.  We should have a General Election when we have reformed the system of MPs’ expenses and the electorate can make a proper choice based on the policies put forward.”

“ I entered politics to improve the lives of ordinary working people. This has always been my priority and it remains the priority of the Labour Government.”
