Janet Dean says people in Burton deserve better rail services.
“I have called for better train services for Burton many times over the years.” Janet said. “Now we are likely to have significant new housing and more people coming to live here, we must have better links with London, Birmingham and the North.”
“One of the issues I have taken up is the lack of early morning trains from Burton to Derby and the north. At present the first train is at 06.51. There are earlier trains from Birmingham which could stop here, but Cross Country, which operates the service, are unwilling to change the timetable. At the other end of the day, the last train from Birmingham to Burton in the week is just after 11pm, too early for people going to the theatre or on a night out.”
“I am also concerned about the poor facilities passengers have had to put up with for so long at Burton station. We have been promised major improvements and I know that Government money is available. I am aware that the bridge needs to be strengthened first. I have asked again for an update on when the work will start.”
“In the meantime I have also called on East Midlands Trains to do something about the state of the toilets at the station.”
