Janet Dean, MP for Burton and Uttoxeter last night presented 3 petitions in the House of Commons on behalf of constituents fighting to save their post offices.
Speaking in the House, she said “I am grateful for the opportunity this evening to present three petitions. Many of my constituents in Stapenhill, Marchington and Mayfield are deeply concerned about the future of their post offices. More than 400 people attended the three public meetings I organised to oppose the closure of three of the five post offices in my constituency that Post Office Ltd wishes to close.”
The petitions declare that the supporters of each post office recognise their importance to their community and oppose the closure plans. They request that the House of Commons urges the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform to instruct Post Office Ltd to keep each of the post offices open.
